August is usually a slow month for NBA news, but a few former Sacramento Kings players made the headlines so here is what you need to know.

August is often the slowest month of the NBA calendar.  The offseason has seen the draft take place and the big name free agents have signed, so the only news is camp deals and international basketball tournaments.  That is what made Tuesday, August 8 an exciting day for Sacramento Kings fans.  Here are the two headlines that surfaced regarding former Kings Ty Lawson and Ben McLemore that you need to know.

Ty Lawson is heading to China

David Pick reported on Twitter that Lawson has officially signed with the Shandong Gold Stars in China for next season.  Lawson will make $2.4 million. Questions surrounded Lawson’s future, but now we know.  He could head back to the NBA after the CBA season ends in February.

Lawson came to Sacramento as a free agent before last season and had a renaissance of sorts.  He played 25.1 minutes a game and averaged 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  Lawson should score a ridiculous amount in the CBA giving the fast pace of the league.

Ben McLemore is an injured Grizzly

Ben McLemore who bolted Sacramento this summer for Memphis was injured in a pick-up game.  McLemore has a fracture in his foot and is expected to miss approximately three months according to the press release.

McLemore was drafted by Sacramento in 2013 and has played every one of his 293 NBA games in a Kings uniform. The relationship did not have the happiest of endings, but hopefully, McLemore gets healthy and realizes his potential in Memphis.
