DeMarcus Cousins stated in a recent interview that he cannot wait to face the Kings in Sacramento this season.  This article details Cousins time with the Kings and how it will be an emotional night.

ESPN’s Marc J. Spears recently wrote a fabulous article profiling former Sacramento Kings star, DeMarcus Cousins.  Read it for yourself here as it is well worth your time.  Cousins starts off the interview by saying the game he is looking forward to most is his return to Sacramento to face the Kings.  The revenge game in his former home city does sound enticing.  Let us take a look back at his time with the Kings and why it will be an emotional night.

Cousins time in Sacramento

DeMarcus Cousins had a ton of personal success in his six and half seasons with the Sacramento Kings.  He had three All-Star appearances and made the All-NBA team twice.  Cousins also transformed himself from the fifth overall pick in 2010 NBA Draft into a consistent 20 point per game scorer and double-double monster in the league.  Boogie was always fun to watch because he brought energy and passion to the game (often to his detriment as many of you know).

The problem was despite being a star player and earning personal honors the Kings never won as a team.  The most wins Sacramento had during Cousins tenure was 33 and heck they won 32 last year.  That after the big trade and rebuilding after the All-Star Break.  The lack of success led to DeMarcus Cousins departure to New Orleans and the Kings to another roster rebuild.

Emotional Return

There are a lot of reasons why it will be an emotional return for Boogie Cousins.  Not only did the Kings give Cousins his first shot in the NBA by drafting him, but he rewarded the city with plenty of charitable contributions.  Cousins seemed to enjoy playing in Sacramento and for the team’s fans.  I am sure Boogie will have a huge night when his Pelicans travel to Sacramento this season.

Final Thoughts

It is worth noting that Cousins has already faced the Kings once in his career.  On March 31, the Kings traveled to New Orleans and lost 117-89 against the Pelicans.  Cousins went off against his former team for 37 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, and 5 three-pointers made.  It was a great night for Boogie and his Pelicans.

There should be plenty of hype and intrigue surrounding his return to Sacramento this season so stay tuned for the date and plenty more about this story as the game approaches.
