There is mutual interest between Vince Carter and the Sacramento Kings during this free agency period. If the two parties come to an agreement, it would benefit the Kings greatly.
The news is out that 19-year veteran Vince Carter will have if not already had a meeting with the Sacramento Kings. In his recent campaign with the Memphis Grizzlies, Carter averaged 8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 39.4% from the floor and 37.8% from beyond the perimeter.
The Fit
The Kings only have one pure small forward on their team which is Justin Jackson (recent first-round pick), so a wing player is a dire need for Sacramento this free agency. Not only does Carter fit the bill in terms of filling a depth chart need, but also what he brings to the table.
The eight-time All-Star is in his later days of his career, but yet, he still makes for a solid 3-and-D player for the teams he has recently played for. Carter would bring solid production for the Kings at the wing position, but would also be a great mentor for the young guys that are currently infesting Sacramento’s roster.
Final Thoughts
Depending on whether or not Otto Porter signs the max offer sheet that Sacramento has given him, the Kings might have a lot of cap space to spend. If Porter does decline Sacramento’s offer, the Kings should offer Carter a short-term contract that is valued high. Having another veteran (like Garrett Temple) would be beneficial for the Kings. Their roster has a lot of young talent, but they need a great veteran presence like Carter to lead them in the right direction.
