Langston Galloway ditches the Sacramento Kings and agrees to a contract with the Detroit Pistons.  This article details Galloway’s time with Sacramento and a reaction to the signing.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Langston Galloway has agreed to a three-year contract for $21 million with the Detroit Pistons.  Today, we take a look at Galloway’s time with the Sacramento Kings and then provide a reaction to this move.  Without further ado, let us jump right into it.

Galloway as a King

Langston Galloway had a short stay in Sacramento.  He was part of the DeMarcus Cousins trade last All-Star Break.  Galloway appeared in 19 games for the Kings.  He averaged 6.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 three-pointer made per game in his 19.7 minutes a night for Sacramento.  Below is a short highlight video of Galloway’s play last season.

Galloway had a $5.4 million player option for the 2017-2018 season but declined it to hit the open market.  A wise business decision as Galloway got an average annual value of seven million dollars from the Pistons.

Reaction

I was not surprised by this move.  Galloway is still just 25 years old and has shown the ability to be effective in a limited role of about 20 minutes per game.  The Pistons had little bench depth last season so paying Galloway seven million dollars a season to provide some punch off the pine is a wise move.

The Kings let Galloway walk because they are not expecting to contend this season.  Why pay a young guy you already know is just a role player?  It makes sense for Sacramento to let him walk and go for a more veteran presence to help develop the youngsters.

Final Thoughts

There you have it, Langston Galloway is off the board, and the Sacramento Kings are still searching for their first free agent signing.  The Kings have done great so far this offseason, so being patient and smart may just pay dividends for them.  Stay tuned for all the free agency information you wish to know about the Kings.
