The Kings are in rebuilding mode with nine players on rookie contracts. The future seems bright, but keep this word in mind: patience.

The future can be bright for the Sacramento Kings. By bright, I mean super-duper-extra bright. With nine players on rookie contracts, the Kings can become a solid team through the draft. We as avid Kings fans can be the most excited fans on the planet, but we cannot rush ourselves just yet. Yes, there were four fantastic picks in the 2017 NBA Draft. It is true, Buddy Buckets, the Haitian Sensation, Big Papa, and Malachi are entering their sophomore years. Yes, Willie Cauley-Stein has shown immense potential (which we knew he had) after the blockbuster DeMarcus Cousins trade. We fans have been very optimistic, but there is another key trait we all must have: patience.

It is relatively easy to get stoked about what could happen if everything pans out correctly, but as we have witnessed in the past, not everything goes our way.

Let me list you some recent notable picks that never panned out (starting from 2010): Tyler Honeycutt, Jimmer Fredette, Thomas Robinson, Ray McCallum, and Nik Stauskas.

You can add Ben McLemore to that list as he is a free agent who most likely won’t be back. Isaiah Cousins situation is a strange one, so I’ll leave him off for now. It has not worked well for many Sacramento draftees because of that keyword.

As the saying goes, patience is a virtue. The four rookies we will see next season, paired with the sophomores can be very good. The optimism is very high for next season which is amazing to see. These youngsters can and hopefully will be excellent players.

But my message to all fans and anyone watching the Kings for whatever reason: be patient with them. They won’t become a playoff team just yet. They’re young, and they’ll grow because they have plenty to learn. Perhaps, the Kings can replicate the Warriors success by building through the draft while attracting prolific free agents.

It won’t happen overnight of course, but remember to be patient!
