NBA Draft 2017: Final Mock Draft: Who goes where?
29) San Antonio Spurs- Justin Patton, Center, Creighton, Freshman
Stats per game 2016-17: 25.5 MIN/12.9 PTS/69 eFG%/6.1 REB/1.2 AST/1.4 BLK/0.9 STL 69 eFG%
Measurements from 2017 NBA Draft Combine: 6’11 ¼” height with shoes/229 lbs. /7’3” wingspan/9’3 ½” standing reach
The Spurs need to add youth to their frontcourt and Patton falling to 29 fits the bill. The big man from Creighton is a significant threat in the pick and roll with the ability to finish at the rim. He showed some potential scoring from the wing with a surprising handle, which is always an asset in a center. Coach Popovich will demand he defends and rebound to see the floor and would maximize his potential.
30) Utah Jazz-Jawun Evans, Guard, Oklahoma State, Sophomore
Stats per game 2016-17: 29.3 MIN/19.0 PTS/46 eFG%/37.6 3PT%/6.5 AST/3.4 REB/1.7 STL
Measurements from 2017 NBA Draft Combine: 5’11 ½” height with shoes/185 lbs. /6’5 ½” wingspan/7’11” standing reach
A Royal Pain Prospect Profile: Jawun Evans
The Jazz could lose George Hill to free agency, and Dante Exum seems best suited as an off-guard if he continues to improve his jumper. Drafting Evans would allow Exum to play off the ball and let Evans run the offense. He understands when to push the pace and is extremely quick with the ball in his hands. His size limits his defense to sticking on point guards, but Evans has a long wingspan for his height and is solid on the ball. He is a great option to lead the second unit for Utah.
