The NBA Draft is fast approaching, so this article details when and where the Sacramento Kings pick along with some things to watch for on draft night.

We are just days away for the June 22 NBA Draft.  Draft night is always a time for hope and fantasy about seasons ahead.  Every team has their record reset and has dreams of making a deep run in the playoffs next year.  The prospect your team selects is sure to be the next NBA legend and lead the team for the next two decades.  The whole night is pie in the sky dreaming.

Reality does not set in until next fall when you see the player in camp or the preseason, and he is not quite ready for the league.  He struggles to begin the season and even spends some time in the D-League before returning and playing well the final two months of the season.  That is the standard path for a rookie, so do not get too excited on draft night.

Today, we will take a look at where the Sacramento Kings are currently selecting in the 2017 draft and then go over a few things to watch for on draft night.  I will then finish up with a final thought or two.  Let us get right into it.

Sacramento Kings selections

First Round- Five Overall

First Round- Ten Overall

Second Round- 34 Overall

The Kings currently have three picks in this draft.  They pick twice in the top ten before finishing off their night at pick 34 overall.  That gives them three chances to improve their rebuilding roster on June 22.

Things to watch for

Trades

One may even sneak in before draft night, but expect at least a few draft night trades.  They always make the evening more exciting and throw some spice into the draft.  Just last season, Sacramento traded down from pick eight overall, so maybe they could be the team trading again.

Buying second round picks

The buying of second round picks is worth watching on draft night.  Especially late in the draft, teams will just trade away selections for cash.  Golden State was one of three teams that bought a second round pick last year and the player they selected Pat McCaw saw minutes in 15 of their 17 playoff games this season.  I am a proponent of Sacramento buying a late second round selection this year as an upside flier for their roster.

Final Thoughts

There you have it, where the Sacramento Kings are selecting in the 2017 NBA draft plus a few things to watch for on draft night.  The Kings need to improve their roster this offseason, and the draft is their first crack at it.  Let us hope that Vlade Divac and company nail their two top ten selections and give Kings fans two players to cheer on for years to come.
