1) Boston Celtics: Markelle Fultz, Point Guard, Washington, Freshman

Stats per game 2016-17: 35.7 MIN/23.2 PTS/53.5 eFG%/41.3 3PT%/5.9 AST/5.7 REB/1.6 STL/1.2 BLK

Measurements from USA Basketball 2016: 6’3 ½” height with shoes/185 lbs./6’9 ¾” wingspan/8’5 ½ standing reach

For all the talk about packaging the picks, they received from Brooklyn to acquire Jimmy Butler or Paul George, Boston smartly held onto their assets. By standing pat, the Celtics have a unique opportunity to contend immediately while simultaneously building for the future. With no elite shot blocker or rebounder near the top of draft boards, the obvious choice is selecting Markelle Fultz.

Washington’s Fultz is the top prospect in the draft with his all-around game highlighted by his ability to score from all three levels. He is NBA-ready and can run an offense or play off the ball as a spot-up shooter, something he’ll do a great deal of playing with Isaiah Thomas. Tossing in the best point guard prospect in years with last year’s 1st round pick Jaylen Brown and next year’s Brooklyn pick (Michael Porter Jr. or Luka Doncic?) with cap space to add players and Boston is prime for the future.
