2017 NBA First Round Mock Draft 2.0
By Tyler Watts
10. Sacramento Kings (via New Orleans Pelicans)- Malik Monk- PG/SG- Kentucky
I mentioned the Kings two needs coming into the offseason at pick five, but Sacramento has created a third need for themselves. With the release of Anthony Tolliver, the Kings also need depth at the four. They have Skal Labissiere, but all their other big men are best suited to play the five, and they lack the ability to stretch the floor.
If Sacramento selects De’Aaron Fox at pick five, they will struggle with spacing at the one and five positions, so any player that can stretch the floor would be a nice addition to their roster.
Why Malik Monk?
Malik Monk’s A Royal Prospect Profile
Monk appears to be a dynamic scorer that is best suited in the NBA as a sixth man who comes off the bench and puts the ball in the basket. Think of current players like Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams, and that is the profile Monk fits.
The former Kentucky Wildcat would be a great fit for Sacramento off the bench. It would give them two players with the ability to play point guard on their roster and an absolute marksman from beyond the arch coming off the bench. I mean it Monk has some spectacular range and if you do not believe me check out this highlight video below.
The haul of Fox and Monk at picks five and ten would reunite the former Kentucky teammates and set the Kings up with a dynamic backcourt to build around. Throw in Buddy Hield, and Sacramento has a young backcourt that could destroy opposing defenses.
