Slideshow: Ultimate Lineup of Former Sacramento Kings’ Draft Picks
Center: Hassan Whiteside
The Kings took a chance on a big man in the 2010 Draft as they opted for Hassan Whiteside with the 33rd pick. Whiteside was supposed to partner up with Cousins in the frontcourt but only played in 19 games for the Kings averaging 5.8 minutes per game.
Whiteside was waived by the Kings in 2012 after playing for the D-League affiliate Reno Bighorns. Whiteside then spent time playing in Lebanon and China before returning to the NBA where he was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2014. In that same year, however, Whiteside was released by Memphis but was then signed by the Miami Heat. As a result, Whiteside developed into one of the best rim protectors in the league.
For this season, Whiteside led the NBA in rebounds (14.1 per game), was ranked fourth in blocks (2.1 per game), and contributed 17 points on a nightly basis. The Heat were one of the surprise teams this season, missing out on the postseason via tiebreaker by one game, with Whiteside leading the team in PER (22.68).
