Lonzo Ball | PG | UCLA

(Friday 9:39 – EST)

Lonzo Ball is a player that has garnered attention all season for his flashy play, excellent shooting, and “interesting” family dynamic. In his opening game against Kent State, Ball had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. He hit two of three from beyond the arc in his 34 minutes.

Ball was even more impressive in the second round posting a near triple-double with 18 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds against the Cincinnati Bearcats. He was key to their second half surge, eventually winning the game by 12 points.

For the season, Ball has been hitting 42% of his threes off taking 5.4 shot attempts per game. Some will want to see him get to the line more than his 2.7 attempts per game but that can be improved. Ball will also need to improve on the 67% free-throw percentage he shoots once he is there.

Expect to hear Ball’s name early in June’s draft, potentially the first name called. However, if the right teams end up in the top 3 picks, there is a chance, while ever so slight that Ball could fall into the Kings’ lap. The Kings may be in a position to package their two first-round picks to move up and take the stellar freshman.

Projecting forward, Ball fits the mold of the NBA evolution. He has the physical size at 6’6” to defend both guard spots, has NBA shooting range, and can distribute to his teammates. He does put off a Kevin Martin vibe with his lanky frame and unorthodox release.

Ball should be a much better player than K-Mart was during his time in the NBA. If that is his floor, NBA teams wouldn’t be upset to have a player who will play 12 seasons and contributes on playoff teams.
