The Sacramento Kings made news last Sunday as they traded away DeMarcus Cousins, their franchise centerpiece, to the New Orleans Pelicans. Although Cousins’ love and emotion have remained the same towards the Sacramento community, his feelings towards his former team have changed.

In a recent interview with Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears, Cousins finally expressed his thoughts about the Kings’ front office after being traded to the Pelicans. Listed down below are some of the quotes by the All-Star big man that stood out from the interview.

"“It was a coward move, so I’m pretty sure I will get a coward response. For what? And I’ve seen this happen before. -DeMarcus Cousins on why he has not contacted the Kings since being traded"
"I’ve seen how they operate. I know what kind of answer I will get anyway. So, what is the point?” -DeMarcus Cousins on why he hasn’t contacted the Kings after being traded"

My Thoughts

The frustration from Cousins is understandable. The Sacramento Kings seemed so convincing a couple weeks ago when they stated that were not planning on trading Cousins before this year’s trade deadline. There was even the speculation that Cousins would be signing a multi-year contract worth north of $200 million with the Kings this summer. Yet here we are and Cousins is wearing #0 for the Pelicans. This reality still hasn’t hit me.

Overall, the backlash of these comments might make it seem like Cousins is being petty, but it’s understandable why he is upset. Cousins loved being part of the Kings and the Sacramento community. His loyalty to the city of Sacramento was unquestionable after his recent interview with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne during All-Star weekend.

Final Thoughts

So even though the Sacramento Kings’ front office has a right to trade Cousins and it’s understandable why they did, they still misguided Cousins into thinking he was part of their long-term future. The Kings didn’t have to go out of their way to Cousins and ESPN to state that the big man was not for sale, but they did, and I think that is what made Cousins most upset about being traded.

Warning for Kings fans: Expect Cousins to unleash havoc towards the Kings going forth.
