When the Kings Play Defense and Take Care of the Ball, Good Things Happen

See what happens Kings when you play great defense and take care of the ball? The end result is a win, and a very important win at that. Sure, LeBron James was not in the line-up for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his teammates were, and they were just as listless tonight as the Kings were good.

  • Just how good were the Kings in their 103-84 rout of the slumping Cavs? Well, for starters Sacramento spread the wealth, and had 20 assist on 42 made field goals. During the Kings funky stretch, ball movement has been a huge issue, but not tonight!

Another critical aspect of the Kings win tonight was that their defense, which has been on a milk carton for the past month and a half, finally decided to make a cameo appearance. Sacramento held Cleveland to just 42 percent from the field, and even held them to 15 points in a second quarter that saw the Kings finally blow open a tight game.

It also helps to have your two main guys producing at a high level. DeMarcus Cousins led the group effort with 26 points and 13 rebounds, and his Robin, Rudy Gay, chipped in 23 points big points.

Yes, the Cavs are a horrible defensive team on their own right, but it’s a rarity when the Kings put on such a great end-to-end performance.

With their win tonight, the Kings looks like they are on a mini-run. The Kings have now won two of their last three games, and are 2-1 on a six-game homestand that could very well see if the Kings will be in the position to make a late run for one of the last two playoff spots in the west.

But let’s not dwell on that now, and just celebrate a huge win for the Kings, and get ready for the high-powered Mavericks on Tuesday.
