Under the Maloof ownership, former center Vlade Divac had a standing invitation to join the Kings franchise. It was an offer Divac never accepted given he was busy heading up the Serbian Olympic Committee.
But with Divac’s tenure coming to a close, rumors have spread suggesting Divac could potentially join the Kings franchise again in some type of front office/advisory role. The former All-Star threw fuel on that fire when in Sacramento last month, hinted he’d like to return to the NBA.
That sparked a fan question during Pete D’Alessandro’s end of season Q&A session where the Sacramento Kings GM said he certainly wouldn’t close the door on a reunion with former players from the Kings glory years.
"“We see this as a Kings family, and even to have Mitch Richmond working for us is incredible. He’s a great guy with an incredible amount of knowledge and the ability to connect with players in a way that only Mitch Richmond can. I think we need to look at it as a family, and there’s so much respect for that 2002 roster for me. Who knows what happens down the road? I would never close the door on anything.”"
