Kings Lose At Buzzer To Hornets

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Game Recaps | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I knew the Hornets would be in for a drop off this year. But wow, were they really as bad as it showed last night or was it the Kings actually playing well? I’m going to call it a bit of both.
I was quite impressed with the Kings overall last night – they played tough, gritty defense (well, as much as THEY can) and clogged up passing lanes resulting in eleven Hornet turnovers. Chris Paul was hounded by the much larger Tyreke Evans as he struggled through the first half. He caught fire late in the first half, which coincidentally [...]

Kings Crushed By Thunder

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Game Recaps | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Yikes. That was not the way to start the season. It wasn’t even 9 minutes into the game and the Kings were gasping for life, down a good 15 points. And where do we even start with the players?
Newly crowned starting Power Forward Sean May had as many rebounds in the game last night as I did. Spencer Hawes looks like a shell of his former self (which wasn’t all that amazing to begin with) coming off the bench. Kevin Martin did a great job at getting to the line but shot a horrible percentage and did little else on [...]

2002 WCF Kings – Lakers excerpt from Tim Donahey’s book

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Kings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Deadspin.com posted some very candid and downright stunning excerpts from the book, “Blowing The Whistle”…penned by fallen NBA referee Tim Donahey. There are a variety of stunning, ugly, and crippling allegations in the book…one of which includes our Sacramento Kings and the famed 2002 Western Conference Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Donahey writes:

Studying under Dick Bavetta for 13 years was like pursuing a graduate degree in advanced game manipulation. He knew how to marshal the tempo and tone of a game better than any referee in the league, by far. He also knew how to take subtle-and not so subtle-cues [...]

Preview: Sacramento Kings Open Season In Oklahoma City

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Previews | COMMENTS: None Yet

It feels like we were just here. And more importantly, it feels like we were just here and had about a 30 point lead in the 3rd quarter. Shame they couldn’t wait until TODAY to unleash that whipping.
Anyway, the 2009-10 season starts tonight at 5:00 local time as the Kings take on another up-start team in the Oklahoma City Thunder. And yes, I’m fully aware that while this season will almost be guaranteed to be better than last (simply by default), I’m aware it’s going to be another long season, but at least there is excitement this year.
I don’t have [...]

Bobby Jackson To Retire

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Kings, Players | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

You know what’s funny? During the Kings glory years, it wasn’t MVP candidate Chris Webber who was my favorite King. It also wasn’t  All-Star Peja Stojakovic. Nope, it wasn’t Mike Bibby nor was it Vlade Divac. It was Bobby Jackson.
He wasn’t the star. He wasn’t even the best guard on the team. But, there was nobody better than Action Jackson in my purple heart.
You never gave up. You never hung your head. You played with the passion and desire every night that we expected out of a true professional. You alone were the inspiration for the term, “heart of a [...]

Kings Cut Ely & Smith

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Kings, Players | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

You should see the shock on my face. /sarcasm
When you can’t earn a roster spot on one of the worst teams in the NBA, it’s time to start looking at the NBDL and Europe Mr. Ely.
The Kings cut the seven year forward/center and guard Lanny Smith today which trimmed their roster to 14 players.
The team will travel to Oklahoma City for a game Thursday against the Thunder and close out the preseason at home versus the Jazz on Friday.

Lakers Edge Kings

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Game Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

Thanks to a variety of reasons, mainly 10 News in Sacramento, I and most likely you were unable to watch the Kings game last night. It was streamed but I didn’t really have the desire to go spend a few hours of my night looking for it when I could be doing more productive things like sewing sweaters.
The Kings ran into major issues in the second quarter which really was the end of the game, despite their impressive fourth quarter where they brought the score back to a respectable level. Jason Thompson and Tyreke Evans both had extremely strong games [...]

Kevin Martin & Tyreke Evans At Small Forward?

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Kings, Players | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In the wake of the tragic exercise ball bursting, Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal told the media that he plans to use Kevin Martin and Tyreke Evans at the Small Forward position at times this season, making one scratch their head even more. Per Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee:
Kings coach Paul Westphal offered a little more into his thinking in how he plans to map out playing time at small forward.
Beno Udrih. Kevin Martin. Tyreke Evans.
The Evans-Udrih backcourt has been used in the preseason before Francisco Garcia’s injury. Without Garcia, those two along with Martin will help fill the [...]

Francisco Garcia Injured In Freak Accident

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Kings, Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

In what can only be described as what the holy fuck, Kings (most likely starting) Small Forward Francisco Garcia fractured his forearm in a fluke weightlifting accident on Friday when exercise ball he was on burst. Garcia will have surgery on the arm today and is out indefinitely.
Kings GM Geoff Petrie commented on the situation late last evening:
“It’s just one of those random events that you really can’t protect yourself from,” Petrie said. “But he will get better. It’s unfortunate for him and for us in that he’s one of our most dedicated players in terms of his conditioning and [...]

Blazers Burn Kings, 98-86

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Game Recaps | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Well, it was nice to see some basketball last night. Wait. I couldn’t see jack shit thanks to News 10, Comcast, and the Kings. And even better, I couldn’t even listen to it without paying an ass-chewing amount thanks to NBA.com since I already threw down $200 bucks to watch the Kings on League Pass. So much for being a fan and wanting to support your team eh? The annual $500 bucks I thrown down on them simply isn’t enough to watch a meaningless, boring, preseason game. Silly me.
As to the game, the Kings played well for the first half [...]
