What started from a simple tweet on Aaron Brooks’ account has manifested into official word, as it’s been confirmed by multiple sources that former Houston Rocket and Phoenix Sun Aaron Brooks will sign a contract with the Sacramento Kings.

Terms of the deal have yet to be released, although, Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld reports the deal will be two years. The price should also be respectable as the Kings don’t have more than $2.5 million available under the salary cap.

Update: Sam Amick reports the the deal will average $3.3 million for the two years, the second year a player option.

Brooks, who’s long been a target of GM Geoff Petrie, brings some floor leadership, backcourt speed and stability to the Kings, but also brings some questionable shot selection and iffy defense. It’s a mixed bag of reaction from media and King fans alike.

The addition also puts former BYU Cougar Jimmer Fredette in a bit of a pickle as the team was hoping Fredette could take over backup point guard duties. However, two sub-par Summer League games paired with his struggles last year may have forced the Kings’ hand as it became more and more clear that Fredette was not ready to handle those duties. How the move translates into future playing time for Fredette remains to be seen, although, it’s tough to see it as a positive move for Team Jimmer.

Brooks’ addition gives the Kings a roster of 14 players, 15 players being the max.

Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

Assuming the rumors of Jason Thompson re-signing with Sacramento are true and the starting salary is at the rumored $6+ million mark, the Kings wont have a ton of money to throw at Ryan Anderson in free agency so it could be positive news that the Orlando Magic are exploring sign and trades for the Sacramento native.

Per Wojo:

Orlando RFA Ryan Anderson likely won’t re-sign with Magic and will be moved in a sign-and-trade, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Finding the pieces that would satisfy Orlando seems difficult though as the Kings assets appear to be too rich or too poor, but there’s no doubt there will be talks if there haven’t been already. The Kings wont be alone though, as they’re not the only team who has explored bringing in the talented shooter.
