When I think of the Golden State Warriors, a lot of things come to mind – some good, some bad, but best ownership in the NBA? Hardly. And don’t take that wrong, Dub fans, it’s not a slight. I wouldn’t take it as a snub to the Kings fan base if Warrior faithful said the Kings had some of the worst ownership in the NBA – it’s true. So, color me a bit shocked when a reported Kings “executive” claimed that the Warriors ownership group could be the best in the NBA in just a couple of years:

In a back room at the NBA draft lottery Wednesday night, a member of the Sacramento Kings’ ownership group approached Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob and made an amplified claim.

“In five years, I think your ownership group could be considered the best in the NBA,” the Kings’ executive said to Lacob. “I completely get the vision you have for the arena in San Francisco.”

Despite if you feel that the above comment has some truth to it, the fact that the statement was even muttered is absurd. There were only a small handful of King executives at the NBA Draft Lottery in New York, even fewer that would have any desire to make that claim – even less that would be stupid enough to put their foot in their mouth like that.

And while I’m not going to claim it was anybody’s foot in-particular, I have a strong sense that that foot might be wearing some of her famous high-heels with a camera crew in tow.

Listen, I don’t exactly have a problem with the notion of the Warriors at some point in the coming years having a premier front office, I have a problem with a nameless (and somewhat obvious and uninformed) Kings “executive” using the Warriors move as a platform to believe that they also need to relocate.

Every season, it seems as if there is some type of significant change to the NBA Draft Lottery and this year is no different. Be it a new time, new date or new venue, there’s always something unique that forces many fans to go “who, what, where, when and why”.

Credit: Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

This year, the event will move from Secaucus, New Jersey to the brighter lights of New York City and the ABC studios, making it the first time in nearly twenty years that the event hasn’t been held at the NBA studios in Secaucus.

The draft will take place this coming Wednesday, May 30th, at 5 p.m. PDT prior to the tip of game 2 between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.

The Kings have dealt with a mass amount of unfortunate at the NBA Lottery recently, falling from their projected spot four times since the 2007 lottery, the worst fall coming in 2009 when the Kings (who had the best odds at the #1 selection) fell the maximum allowed slots to the fourth pick. One would expect it’s time for a turnaround on the Kings lotto luck, but as we’ve all seen in past years, that just doesn’t seem to be the case. How many times can one team fall?

In terms of odds, the Kings have a 7.6% chance of winning the lotto, 8.6% chance at number two and a 9.5% chance at the third pick. They have a 26.1% chance at staying at 5, a 38.6% chance to drop to 6th, a 9.3% chance to drop to 7th and a 0.8% to get the 8th pick, which is as far as they can drop per the lotto rules. The fifth spot isn’t all bad though in terms of the lottery as three teams in the past decade have won the lotto from that position (Washington in ’10, Toronto in ’06, Houston in ’02).

Joe and Gavin’s sister, Adrienne Maloof, will represent the Kings at the event.

I only wish I was joking.

Tune in this Wednesday where we’ll hopefully see history.
