Long-time Sacramento King, Tyreke Evans has left the team for the second time. Evans has found a new NBA home in Memphis as a free agent.

The Sacramento Kings drafted Tyreke Evans back in 2009 ahead of the likes of Steph Curry and Ricky Rubio. He looked to be on the path to stardom but was riddled by injuries. Those injuries ultimately lead to his departure. Evans was sent back to Sacramento as an expiring contract in the DeMarcus Cousins trade. He has officially left again, joining the Memphis Grizzlies on a one-year deal worth $3.3 million.

The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed with Tyreke Evans to play on the wing. They likely want him to play a sixth man role in Memphis.  Evans is a great isolation scorer with an inconsistent three point shot and spotty defense. He is capable of playing positions one through three but tends to struggle when playing off the ball.

His past injuries have really hindered his career, but there is a belief that in the right situation, he could be useful for a championship-level team. Memphis could really benefit from having a playmaker off the bench like Evans.

It is always a shame when injuries side tracks a player’s career the way it has for Tyreke Evans. We at A Royal Pain did not think Sacramento should bring Evans back (More Here). That does not mean we do not want him to succeed, it is actually quite the contrary. Evans is a very hardworking man and most NBA fans agree that he can be productive again, just not in Sacramento.  The Kings are rebuilding and Evans should be playing a role on a contender.  Best of luck in Memphis Mister Evans.
