The Sacramento Kings stayed No. 10 overall after the lottery.  This article provides a mock draft and details why the Kings will select Jonathan Isaac at tenth overall.

The NBA Draft Lottery was great to the Sacramento Kings this season.  The Kings walked away picking fifth and tenth overall.  I wrote a mini mock draft detailing what Sacramento should do at fifth overall here.  Check it out as a precursor to this article.

Today, we will take a look at the number ten overall pick and examine why the Kings should select Jonathan Issac with that selection.

No. 10 Overall

I detailed what I think happens in the first five picks here, so let us move on to picks six through ten.

Picking ahead of the Kings in this group are the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks.  With the current order, I believe the Magic select Dennis Smith Jr.  The Timberwolves are the team most likely to choose the player I have going to Sacramento, but I still think Minnesota feels Lauri Markkanen is a better fit and makes him the choice.  That leaves the Knicks with Frank Ntilikina and the Mavericks settle for Malik Monk.

This order leaves the Sacramento Kings with the perfect fit for their team.

Why Jonathan Isaac

Jonathan Isaac is a wing talent that would complete their young starting five rotation of the future.  Isaac, Willie Cauley-Stein, and Skal Labissiere man the front court with Buddy Hield and De’Aaron Fox in the backcourt.  That is a group of talented young players that could grow into a vaunted unit.

Isaac has a ton of upside on the defensive end of the floor, and that is Sacramento’s weakness.  The Kings ranked 27 in the NBA in defensive rating this regular season.  They are in desperate need of a defensive stopper, and I believe Isaac can transform into one under the guidance of defense first coach Dave Joerger.

Sacramento should select Isaac if he is still on the board at pick ten and I would argue he may be the selection at pick five if Fox is already selected.

Final Thoughts

The draft on June 22 should be a day for Sacramento Kings fans to enjoy.  The Kings will be picking twice in the top ten and be adding two talented pieces to fast track their rebuild.  I am excited to see what transpires that night and you should be too.
