Willie Cauley-Stein was a bright spot to the disappointing season that the Sacramento Kings had.

Like what the pre-draft scouting reports said, Cauley-Stein was able to be rim-protector right away at the professional level, plus even make huge strides in his offensive development.

The last few seasons the Kings have had rotten luck when it came to selecting first-round draft picks, but Cauley-Stein officially made it clear this season that the Kings are indeed not cursed.

Although Cauley-Stein seems to be a player on the rise, it there any reason for the 7’0 redwood to be traded?

This NBA Draft is expected to carry a few star-caliber players, and the Kings may want a piece of that action by moving up in the draft order.

If the Kings were to make a trade which contained their first round draft pick at #8 and “Trill” in return for a top 3 pick, would that be beneficial for the Kings going forward?

Rafe’s Thoughts

Having the opportunity to select a big-time prospect like Brandon Ingram or Buddy Hield is very tempting if you are a Sacramento Kings fan. But if it’s at the expense of giving up Cauley-Stein it doesn’t seem so tasty. I personally would be hesitant in giving up WCS for a better draft pick or even in any type of trade that is proposed.

The Kings were fortunate to pick up a player last year that has the size and athleticism to be a dominant player in the league who also showed this season to make huge strides in his all-around game. When you have a player that is improving at the pace that Cauley-Stein is, you need to keep him on board for the long-run and make sure he knows it.

Kings fans have been craving for the franchise to select a player that can compliment the game of DeMarcus Cousins in the frontcourt, and Cauley-Stein is the ideal fit for that role. So why tarnish something that has a high chance of becoming great?
