The San Antonio Spurs were without three of their starters (Tim Duncan, Danny Green, and LaMarcus Aldridge) when they played against the Sacramento Kings tonight.

So, if there was any chance that the Kings were going to beat the Spurs this season today was their best opportunity.

Unfortunately for the Kings and their fans that was not the case.

Instead, the Kings fall to a record of 25-36 for the season, as they lost to the Spurs by a score of 104-94.

In his radio show, Kings commentator Grant Napear said that if the Kings were to win this game they needed to be on their A-game while the Spurs were on an off night. None those factored in.

For the Kings, they played a mediocre game. Offensively other than DeMarcus Cousins, Quincy Acy, and Darren Collison no one else made significant contributions in scoring the ball.

The Kings needed a variety players to get into the offensive production, similar to what they did in Dallas on Thursday, in order to be successful against the Spurs stout defense. But there is a reason why the Spurs came into tonight’s game being ranked 1st in the league in points allowed per game (92.2).

Defensively the Kings struggled again. The Kings allowed 104 points, which compared to recent weeks isn’t bad but remember that the majority of the Spurs starters were sidelined due to injuries.

The Spurs relied heavily on their star player Kawhi Leonard, who did his job finishing with 25 points, but surprisingly the Spurs got a major boost from their veteran Manu Ginobili.

Coming off a groin injury, Ginobili made his first appearance this season since the beginning of February. Tonight he made his return back to the court and returned with a bang as he recorded 22 points off of 8-11 shooting from the field.

Overall, the Spurs played an okay game, to their standards, and the Kings played mediocre tonight. Therefore, it resulted in a loss for Sacramento.

Notable players from the Kings this evening were Cousins who recorded 31 points and 9 rebounds, Acy who scored 16 points on 7-7 shooting, and Collison who finished with 12 points and 7 assists.

The Kings next matchup will be in “The Big Easy” as they play the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. The last two contests Sacramento has played against New Orleans they lost in ugly fashion, so for the Kings sake hopefully they can find a solution this time around.
