Sacramento Kings Efforts Short in Corbin’s Finale

With presumably his last game with the Kings, Coach Ty Corbin ended his tenure with a L. This Kings team did show effort in tonight’s game (a lot more than in previous games), but it wasn’t enough as one of the NBA’s surprise teams of the year Milwaukee Bucks hand the Kings their 34th loss (17th on the road) going into All-Star weekend.

I thought the Kings would come into this game with a lot energy for obvious reasons (because of Corbin’s last game). I was proven right, it just wasn’t enough to win. The Kings played with effort throughout this game, but unfortunately the Bucks were just able to make more plays.

This Kings team has some talent (definitely more than the Bucks), but their offense is still stagnant at times, and their defense can open up holes. The Kings did try to make an effort to comeback in the fourth, but unfortunately they fell short.

A bright spot to this game was that it was encouraging to see the Kings play to the end because, if they were put in this scenario a month ago this team would have quit.

While it technically isn’t official, George Karl will be coming to Sacramento to take over coaching duties. Obviously this should help the Kings improve, especially now that the Kings have solidified a coach and a system of play for the future of this team.

Although Tyrone Corbin’s tenure with the Kings was nightmarish to say the least, it wasn’t all his fault as to why the Kings struggled immensely under his leadership. It’s close to impossible to lead a team who briefly let go of their coach (Michael Malone) ,who the entire roster loved.

It’s also impossible to instill a completely different system of play than the one they played to start the season and execute efficiently in that new system. All of this he had to endure with a recent torn Achilles.

Overall, I thought Corbin was put in a lose-lose situation, and I respect the way he handled it. He acted like a complete professional and I hope he finds another opportunity to land a coaching job in the NBA (same for Malone).

Also, my winner for tonight’s game on the Kings is Darren Collison. He didn’t play, but his suit game was strong tonight. Plus, Happy 22nd to Ben McLemore!!
