GameDay Notebook: Kings (16-27) at Knicks (8-37)

facebooktwitterreddit

I could theoretically write something about the Kings 101-126 loss to the Golden State Warriors from Friday night, but anything I could say wouldn’t do Klay Thompsons’ 37-point third quarter justice.

Just watch the video. Or don’t. I’m placing it here as a gift for those who haven’t seen it yet, or missed the game entirely. I can’t watch it again. Too soon.

The silver lining from Friday night’s loss was that the Kings actually hung in there. It was a legitimate basketball game before Klay Thompson went off. I highly doubt the Kings players’ took anything positive away from their performance, because that can be nearly impossible to do when a player single handedly beats you like that, but it’s true. The Kings were competing.

The Kings are in New York tonight to face the Knicks. A win here feels likely, but with this team nothing is certain.

Langston Galloway, Lou Amundson, and Jason Smith are three of the Knicks five starters. Carmelo Anthony is the Knicks offense, and he’s questionable tonight as well. Aside from Carl Landry, the Kings should be at full strength. If they can’t pull out a win tonight, something is seriously wrong.

The Kings play in the Western Conference and they have twice as many wins as the Knicks. I’m not trying to pile on New York here, but they had a weak roster before the season started, and since then they’ve been decimated by injuries. They shouldn’t be able to defend DeMarcus Cousins inside. Key word: Shouldn’t.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Kings signed Quincy Miller to a second 10-day contract yesterday. We haven’t seen a ton of Miller since he arrived in Sacramento, but due to the Rudy Gay ejection, Miller played 33 minutes against the Warriors and looked promising – 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

I’m glad the Kings kept him here, but I think we’re going to need to see him on a more consistent basis. Maybe this second contract is an indication that Miller has earned himself a regular spot in the rotation? We’ll see.

I briefly considered going to the game tonight. For those who are unaware, I bring you these previews out of my office in the suburbs of Boston. We’re expecting a massive Blizzard all along the east coast, and a short trip to New York right in the middle of it no longer sounds like the best idea.

With that being said, we might witness one of the worst crowds in Madison Square Garden history tonight. The Knicks will not be getting a lift from their home crowd. Maybe that helps the Kings? Not that they should need it.

This could also affect the Kings when they play Toronto on Wednesday. They might be stuck in New York for a while.

WE INTERRUPT THIS GAMEDAY NOTEBOOK WITH SOME BREAKING NEWS:

Well, Ok. Thanks for the heads up. I could have used this information an hour ago.

Oh well. Maybe this gets posted, maybe it doesn’t. In the mean time, I’m going to go out back and prepare the snowblower. Have a great off day! For my fellow east coasters, stay safe!
