I remember the Wendy’s commercials from my childhood, you known, the one where the old lady looks at a burger and ask: “Where’s the beef?” Well, Sacramento Kings fans are putting a 2014 twist on the saying, looking at their team and asking: “Where’s the defense?”

  • In short, the defense is nowhere to be found, and before you all go saying that this started when Michael Malone got canned, the Kings defensive problems started long before that. If you recall, the Kings had a wonderful knack of letting big leads slip away, so the defense wasn’t that good to begin with.

The difference in the Ty Corbin era is that the Kings are allowing their opponents to shoot lights out before they even get into the game. The Kings have been a mess on the defensive end all season. Maybe it was the firing of Malone that finally exposed them as frauds at defending their own basket.

But whatever the case, if the Kings dream of getting back into the playoff chase, then the defense is going to have to get cleaned up. If not, then we should expect the Kings to make another bad choice on Draft Day.

But enough dwelling on the Kings pathetic defense, let’s give out the Three Kings of the night from last night’s game against the Pistons shall we?

    One King- Rudy Gay

Gay was not his usual self on Sunday night, but then again, the Kings as a whole didn’t play up to their potential against the Pistons. Gay scored just 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. It was a pretty pedestrian night out, except for this play:

    Two Kings- Darren Collision

If there is one constant during this recent stretch of games, is that Collision is playing much better of late. He was looking for his offense last night, going for 17 points. But the ball seemed stuck in his hands, as he only dished out three assist. If your point guard is not moving the ball, then the offense is going to bog down.

    Three Kings- DeMarcus Cousins

And the Three Kings of the Night goes to Cousins, who did all he could to try to get the Kings a wins last night, going for 18 points, 15 rebounds, and dishing out four assist. If there was anything that was accomplished last night, it was the fact that Cousins should be playing in the All-Star game in New York.

Usually, we dedicate the last space in this column to highlight one of our great Kings fans, but yesterday, the sports world lost Stuart Scott, who at 49 lost his “physical” battle to cancer. I say “physical” because spiritually, he fought the evil disease to the bitter end. So, this space is dedicated to the ma n who gave sports a voice. Stuart, you may be gone, but you certainly will not be forgotten. And if you don’t like this video, you don’t like Kings Basketball.
