High Scoring Leads to Kings Win Over T-Wolves

To avoid losing a third straight game, the Sacramento Kings (14-19) heavily relied on their offense to win tonight against the Minnesota T-Wolves (5-26). Offense was the story of this game as the Kings were able to hold off the struggling for a desperately much needed 110-107 win on the road.

Throughout the game, the Kings had their way with Minnesota’s defense and were able to score at will from time to time. Notable players in tonight’s win are Darren Collison with 21 points and 6 assists, Demarcus Cousins with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Rudy Gay with 21 points and 5 assists, and Derrick Williams with 17 points.

The Kings began the game with a 11-2 run and the lead remained theirs for the whole quarter. The quarter consisted of points, points, and more points from each club as the Kings shot a staggering 74% from the floor and for the T-Wolves 57%. Although throughout the quarter the Kings at times held a double-digit lead, the Wolves were able to claw their way back, as a result ending the quarter only trailing 37-29.

The Kings allowed Minnesota to score 29 points in the period and had trouble guarding rookie Andrew Wiggins. The former Kansas Jayhawk was hot as he scored a whopping 15 points in the second period, showing why he was the 1st pick in last years draft.

Demarcus Cousins was taken out due to foul trouble and was replaced with Carl Landry. and despite Cousins absence, the Kings were still efficient offensively and were able to hold the league throughout the quarter.

With Rudy Gay and Demarcus Cousins fouling out late in the game, it seemed the Kings offense would lose it’s rhythm, but fortunately for the Kings Derrick Williams and Darren Collison were able to log in enough points for the Kings to clinch the win with a score of 110-107.

Final Thoughts

Offense was truly the essence for tonight’s win, as the Kings shot 54% from the floor and 41% from beyond the arc. The Kings were also able to log in 23 assists and shoot 25-29 from the free throw. Whether it was improvement in the new offensive style the Kings are running, or the Kings taking advantage of a defenseless T-Wolves team, the Kings efficiency to score points was the prime factor to their victory tonight.
