The Josh Smith rumors just won’t go away.
Some appear excited by the thought of the shot-blocking forward making his way to the Sacramento Kings while his lack of concern for shot selection understandably terrifies others. Either way, it doesn’t appear that we’ve heard the last of trade talks between the Kings and the Detroit Pistons involving Josh Smith as Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes additional chatter could be on the way.
I’m sure they’ll make more moves, and the conflicting reports about the depth of the talks they had about Smith suggest there’s at least a decent chance those discussions start up again sometime in the future; perhaps once there’s more clarity regarding Greg Monroe. But I’m sure Sacramento has more irons in the fire. No one’s more active on the trade market than Pete D’Alessandro and the Kings brass, as demonstrated yet again by the recent Knicks trade.
Plaguing the situation is the above mentioned pending status of restricted free agent Greg Monroe. It’s difficult to tell what type of impact (positive or negative) Monroe’s free agency is playing in the situation as points could be made either way, though I can’t imagine the Pistons would want to go into the season without both Monroe and Smith on their roster. Of course, if the Pistons are cornered into a sign-and-trade scenario with Monroe, that could impact what they do with Josh Smith.
For now it doesn’t appear there is any dialogue between the two sides though that could potentially change in the future.
