Sacramento Kings small forward Rudy Gay is familiar with USA Basketball considering he was part of the 2010 World Championship team and that may have played a reason into why he was selected to the team today.
While Team USA still plans to keep Paul George on their 2016 Olympic roster (at least currently) they needed somebody to fill in for the upcoming FIBA games and Rudy Gay fit the bill.
Of course, the addition is no guarantee that Rudy Gay will be named to the final roster as he’s just one of 16 other invites attempting to make the team. Still, it seems logical to think he’d have a pretty good chance given the need to replace George, the fact that he’s previously played in the international competition and his familiarity with Coach K.
Oddly enough, two members of the Sacramento Kings roster could end up being on the team if both he and DeMarcus Cousins make the final cut.
Kevin Love, who recently reiterated that he will not be participating despite an assumed pending trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers has to help out Cousins chances.
Here’s wishing some good luck to both guys as it will be nice to see the Kings represented on Team USA.
