The Sacramento Kings were said to likely put forth a waiver claim on Omri Casspi after he was released by the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this week. It seemed logical considering a handful of teams, including the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks were said to have interest.
However, the Kings knew that adding Omri Casspi on his released salary would put them into the luxury tax range and wanting to avoid that, Sacramento’s front office rolled the dice and decided to not claim Casspi off waivers.
Not only were the Kings hoping that Casspi would now clear waivers, they had to hope that he’d sign with them over the other interested parties.
It all worked out that way as Omri Casspi and the Sacramento Kings agreed on a $915,000 dollar deal. Such a move will keep the Kings retain Quincy Acy from a financial standpoint.
Of course, Quincy Acy’s roster spot on the Sacramento Kings likely will be determined by what happens in the next month.
With a roster full of power foward’s, the Kings have been long looking to move one though if they’re unable to do so by August 15th (the date of Quincy Acy’s contract decision) it remains up in the air as to his future.
But in terms of Casspi, such a signing did not directly hurt the chances of retaining Acy moving forward.
