The Sacramento Kings have been searching for an athletic ‘big’ who can help provide shot blocking on the weakside in effort to compliment DeMarcus Cousins. Of course, such players aren’t usually cheap and with limited assets and funds, the Kings are in a bit of a pinch in their efforts to find one.
However, thanks to the play of Eric Moreland during the Las Vegas Summer League, the Kings may have found the player they so desire.
With a motor that just won’t quit, the former Oregon State product has been averaging 8.6 boards and 2.6 blocks during the offseason tournament and understandably thinks he has done enough to earn a roster spot with the Sacramento Kings.
“I would think so; I think I earned a contract,” Moreland said. “That’s what they asked for, that’s what they’re looking for, that’s what the team needs. But at the same time, I’m not worried about that. I’m focused on winning this game (today).”
At 6’10 and 218 pounds, Eric Moreland has an NBA-style body (though some additional weight would be helpful) and may carve out a place in the league given time.
There’s been nothing but praise from the Sacramento Kings coaching staff regarding the play of Eric Moreland, so it seems as if he may have played his way into a potential NBA contract.
