Although Isaiah Thomas is likely waiting for a few more dominoes to fall in free agency before he makes his move, all isn’t completely quiet on the front between he and the Sacramento Kings.
While the Kings have been blasted for allegedly low-balling Isaiah Thomas, the agent for the pint-sized point guard is still in communication with the Kings, this according to the Sacramento Bee’s Ailene Voisin.
“We’re still having conversations with Isaiah’s agent and will continue to do so,” said Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro. “We’ll see where those conversations take us. With us, we’re looking at the big picture. So we’re putting our plan together, assessing what the best chemistry is and working toward long-term sustainability. It’s a puzzle. Every team is trying to put together the right pieces.”
Some media members have attempted to suggest the relationship between the Kings front office and Isaiah Thomas is rather cold, though I have a difficult time believing that as Thomas has been involved in team related activities in recent weeks and has stated on more than one occasion his desire to return.
As is standard operating procedure across free agency, you don’t want to bid against yourself so the Kings are likely waiting for the market to be set regarding Thomas. Once that happens, they’ll react accordingly.
Whether that’s matching an offer sheet he receives or letting him walk/sign-and-trade is an unknown, though it doesn’t sound as if communication is non-existent.
