Stop me if you’ve heard this before – the Sacramento Kings are interested in trading up for Joel Embiid. If that sentiment sounds familiar, it should as about a month ago there were rumors suggesting the same thing. Of course, a month ago would have required the Kings to trade up to the No. 1 selection currently held by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
However, after suffering a foot injury, it’s become a game of how far will Joel Embiid fall. Some have suggested he may slip to the Kings’ No. 8 pick while some pundits have suggested he’ll fall completely out of the lottery. That seems rather unlikely as even last year, Nerlens Noel (who suffered a knee injury during the final games of Kentucky’s season) only fell to No. 6.
Given that, it’s understandable the Kings front office doesn’t likely feel Embiid will fall to them which is why they’ve reportedly attempted to trade up to get the Kansas standout.
Several teams, including the Sacramento Kings at No. 8, have called teams ahead of them in the lottery to propose potential trades to move up and select Joel Embiid, a league source with knowledge of the conversations told CBSSports.com.
‘Them’ would be the teams holding a pick between No. 3 and No. 7, the spots Embiid is most likely to fall.
What the Kings would be able to offer those teams is unknown as most of their tradeable assets are likely too expensive to move up just a few spots.
