Nobody knows what the Sacramento Kings plan to do with their No. 8 pick in Thursday’s 2014 NBA Draft, but Elfrid Payton seems to have a solid inkling that he’ll either be a member of the Los Angeles Lakers or the Sacramento Kings.
That’s what Elfrid Payton informed ESPN’s Andy Katz on Wednesday morning, though, there wasn’t a ton of explanation behind the reasoning so we don’t know if Payton actually has potential promises (unlikely) or if that’s just the sense he gets.
It’s actually a bid of an odd sentiment from the Louisiana-Lafayette product considering being selected with the No. 7 or No. 8 pick seems a bit high as he’s more likely to dip a little further despite a soaring draft stock.
Compared to Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers by some, Payton didn’t receive the national recognition so many other players did thanks to playing in a relatively small school, much like Lillard. Still, it would seem most likely that if the Kings were interested in Lillard (and rumors have suggested such) they’d likely attempt to move back a few picks and secure themselves an additional asset instead of drafting Payton with the No. 8 pick.
For comparison sake, a handful of other prospects have also stated they feel they could be drafted at No. 8 by the Sacramento Kings as well.
