Mayor Kevin Johnson to work with NBA regarding Donald Sterling issue

Delving away from Sacramento Kings news for just a moment, Mayor Kevin Johnson has called for a press conference this afternoon and according to CBS’ Ken Berger, it will (in part) be to announce his expanded role with the union.

Johnson is expected to publicly comment on the alleged racist remarks from Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and given his abilities and public speaking presence, it seems as if the union wanted to bring Johnson in to help with the situation.

Johnson will address the media on the players’ response to the Donald Sterling controversy at halftime, source says. Johnson, the Sacramento mayor, has agreed to take an expanded role with union to deal with Sterling matter.

Johnson, on behalf of the NBA Players Association already met with commissioner Adam Silver in the Bay Area today (Silver is in town for the Warriors-Clippers game).

What exactly he’ll be helping with or a defined role has yet to be announced, though, few are better to assist in such a role.
