2014 NBA Draft: Kings looking for rim protector, big point guard?

On Tuesday afternoon we heard rumblings from general manager Pete D’Alessandro suggesting that trading the Kings first round pick was an option.

Looking to improve the team and do so immediately, the Kings don’t exactly need another young body on the roster who’ll take a few years to develop. Of course, if the right player isn’t available to the Kings via trade, keeping a relatively high pick in a rather stocked draft isn’t the worst idea.

If the Kings do end up keeping the pick rather than trading it away, ESPN’s Chad Ford believes Sacramento will be looking for a rim protector and/or a big point guard.

What the Kings need more than anything else right now is a rim protector. Embiid and Cousins can play together. I don’t think there’s any question about that. Parker is another option and they like him. They also want a big point guard which puts Exum and Marcus Smart in the picture. In short, still a lot of options but if it were today and his back was healthy, I think it would be Embiid for them.
