Few players are more beloved in Sacramento than Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas.
The pint-sized talent has won over the hearts of many thanks to his unstoppable motor, dedication and hard work. Add in his impressive basketball skills you have yourself a recipe for a fan favorite.
A restricted free agent at season end, Thomas has been more than open about his desire to remain with the Kings moving forward.
“I would love to stay,” Thomas said. “I don’t like change of scenery. I don’t like change, so I would love to stay. I’ve been here for three years and it would be great to be here for awhile. But you never know what will happen.”
The Kings will exercise their qualifying offer to Thomas, but at that point it’s not known what they’ll do. It’s possible they could opt to allow the market to set itself for Thomas and see if a team offers the former Washington Huskie a contract, but a team may be hesitant to do such knowing Sacramento will match. Knowing that, it’s possible the Kings and Thomas will be able to work out a deal on their own.
Either way, it’s difficult to envision Thomas not playing in Sacramento for the foreseeable future outside of an outlandish offer in free agency which the Kings deem too expensive to match.
