Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive nominated for 'Sports Executive of the Year'

It’s been just over a year since Vivek Ranadive made successful efforts to save the Sacramento Kings and now the majority owner is being recognized by Street & Smith’s Sports Business Awards as he’s nominated for ‘Sports Executive of the Year’.

Launched in 2oo8 by SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily, the awards are meant to recognize leaders in the industry, something Vivek has taken charge of during his year at the helm of the franchise.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized among such esteemed peers,” said Ranadivé, “I want to thank the Kings fans, as none of our success would be possible without their unrivaled passion and support. When my partners and I purchased the Kings in 2013, I was immediately humbled by the fans’ dedication. And today we’re on track to truly build a 21st century franchise, powered by innovative technologies, an expansive global reach and a deep commitment to serving the community. This nomination is a nod to the power of NBA 3.0 and all who are contributing to make it a reality.”

Competing against Ranadive will be Kevin Plank of Under Armour, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Randy Freer of Fox Sports Media Group.

The award winner will be announced Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in New York City.

Good luck, Vivek!
