NBA fines, suspends DeMarcus Cousins for one-game after punch

The NBA has issued an unexpected suspension to Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins today, saying the suspension was due to a ‘punch’ delivered to Houston Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley.

In addition, the league fined Cousins $20,000 dollars for his outburst which lead to his ejection.

Per NBAPR:

SAC’s Cousins suspended 1 gm for punching HOU’s Beverley, fined 20K for verbal abuse of an official & failing to leave court in timely manner

While many expected a relatively hefty fine given Cousins’ blowup, the punch was not mentioned on either home or visiting broadcast, seemingly going unnoticed by both feeds.

The NBA provided video of the incident which can be seen by clicking here (video can not be embedded).

Maybe a pointer already picked up from newly acquired teammate Reggie Evans who has a history of such?

Cousins of course is nearing a mandatory suspension after picking up his 14th and 15th technical fouls in Sacramento’s loss to the Rockets. The former Kentucky Wildcat will be forced to miss his following game once he picks up the 16th technical.
