Just hours after the Kings were reportedly linked to a ‘failed’ trade for Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo (a very suspect rumor), the Kings are now being linked to another guard – Jarrett Jack of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Per Marc Stein:
Sacramento, I’m told, is another team that has engaged in talks with Cleveland about Brooklyn backcourt target Jarrett Jack
It’s a bit of an odd fit for Sacramento given Jack recently signed a four year, $25 million dollar deal. That said – Jack would bring the Kings a more ‘traditional’ point guard to backup Isaiah Thomas and would likely allow them to move a similar contract in Jason Thompson or Marcus Thornton.
I’m not sure the Kings would be willing to move Thornton for Jack (simply because Thornton’s comes off the books next season) while Jack is signed through the 2016-17 season, though his final year is not fully guaranteed. Thompson on the other hand is signed through 2016-17 as well and has a nearly identical cap figure.
Jack is due $6.3 million dollars every year through the remainder of his contract.
