The NBA has expressed a desire to remove ‘rookie hazing’ from the league and some teams have disallowed players to haze teammates by forcing them to carry around childish or ‘girly’ backpacks.

Unfortunately for Ben McLemore, he still has to lug one around.

The Kings rookie was caught getting on to the team bus for Wednesday’s victory over the New York Knicks, lugging around his Hello Kitty backpack.

TMZ caught up with the former Kansas Jayhawk as he was coming out of the team hotel and pressed him on the bag. McLemore appeared to be a bit shocked at first that they wanted to speak with him, but suggested ‘it’s a rookie thing right here’ when asked about the backpack, chuckling over the experience.

Hopefully he won’t be forced to take the Hello Kitty pack with him to New Orleans as the Kings rookie will be competing in the Slam Dunk contest during the All-Star Weekend.

You can watch Ben and the Western Team attempt to bring home the crown on Saturday night.
