A few weeks back, the rumor mill was churning in full force suggesting the Sacramento Kings (along with the Phoenix Suns) were open for business. ‘Insiders’ suggested the Kings (and Suns) were willing to trade their 2014 first round draft pick, which may not have been that off base considering the Kings were hoping the addition of Rudy Gay would improve the roster drastically.
Gay’s addition has made the Kings a better team, but with his recent absences and the string of games missed by DeMarcus Cousins over a severely bruised ankle, the Kings struggled to put together wins.
Now facing another trip to the lottery, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee hints the Kings will likely hang onto their draft pick.
The Kings would prefer not to part with draft picks in deals, would only take on salary beyond next this season in right situation.
Of course, if Sacramento is offered a deal they can’t refuse, that changes things. But Sacramento’s front office doesn’t seem inclined to move the pick as reports hinted earlier this month.
