Not only has Isaiah Thomas emerged as a fan favorite in Sacramento – he’s emerged as a favorite around the NBA.
Thomas was absolutely sizzling in the Kings loss to the Spurs on Sunday night (27 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds), impressing the usually salty coach who doesn’t often bestow praise – let alone for the opposition:
“I think it’s really cool,” Popovich said. “I’m excited for him. I love when that kind of stuff happens. It shows (the draft is) subjective, thank heavens. If there was a formula it would be the most boring thing for everybody.”
“Having busts in the top 10 and having guys like Isaiah come through on the other end makes it great,” Popovich said.
When pressed on why the Spurs passed on Thomas twice during the 2011 NBA Draft, the veteran coach jokingly deflected blame towards general manager R.C. Buford.
