When the Sacramento Kings sent Ray McCallum to the Reno Bighorns, their Development League affiliate, it was thought he’d be their for the foreseeable future as floor time simply isn’t available in Sacramento right now.
However, plans change and McCallum was recalled to the team today after posting some impressive numbers during his short stint with Reno.
McCallum averaged a team-high 22.0 points (.455 FG%, .308 3pt%, .667 FT%), 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.33 steals and a team-high 38.0 minutes per game in three contests.
Why he was recalled isn’t exactly known. The Kings expect the newly acquired Derrick Williams to play Friday, so it’s not as if the Kings will need an extra man on the roster because of the trade (even if Williams is worked in slowly).
There could be an unknown injury and the Kings want McCallum around in case somebody is to miss time or they simply could have plans to get him some minutes after his solid play in the D-League. There’s also speculation to a potential trade, but that doesn’t appear likely.
