A few weeks ago, it was reported that Ray McCallum would likely be assigned to the Reno Bighorns once their season began and today, that’s what has happened as general manager Pete D’Alessandro made the move:
The Sacramento Kings have assigned rookie guard Ray McCallum to the team’s NBA Development League affiliate, the Reno Bighorns, it was announced today by General Manager Pete D’Alessandro.
The decision makes complete sense as McCallum wasn’t getting any time at the NBA level and needs floor experience to grow. He’ll also get more specialized and focused coaching in Reno, which should expedite his progression and eventual return to Sacramento.
Reno’s season opens on Friday, November 22nd so that’s why McCallum has spent time with the Kings rather than directly being sent to the Kings’ D-League affiliate previously.
McCallum will team up with Brandon Heath, DeQuan Jones and Trent Lockett – all of whom he played with during the Kings training camp and in Summer League.
The Kings rookie will be with the Bighorns when they travel to Sioux Falls to open their season.
