The Sacramento Kings not only plan to broadcast the 2013-14 home opener commercial free, but they’ll also be broadcasting it live in India which is where they might actually play live come the 2014-15 preseason.
Per Scott Howard-Cooper:
Kings in talks for 2014 preseason game in India. Seems fast given lack of premium facilities, but owner Vivek Randive thinks it can happen.
The NBA has always been open to expanding globally and the India market has been one of their biggest priorities in recent years.
Of course, as Howard-Cooper mentions, the main concern is where exactly they’d play but with a year to iron out the kinks, it seems like they’d have long enough to figure that out.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Kings had traveled abroad for the preseason as they, during the height of their popularity, traveled to China for two games where they took on Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets in 2004.
The new ownership hasn’t been quiet about their desire to make the Kings a ‘global’ brand and this is just one of many steps they’ll take to ensure that happens.
