And you thought you’d heard the last of the Sacramento Kings and relocation.
Reports out of Seattle this afternoon have suggested that investor Chris Hansen, who’s group agreed to purchase the Sacramento Kings from the Maloof family before the sale was denied, has funded the attempts to halt the Kings potential new arena.
Per KIRO 7:
BREAKING: Investor Chris Hansen is the man behind a big donation to the anti-Kings arena referendum signature drive in Sacramento.
The NBA of course, prior to allowing Vivek Ranadive and his group to purchase the Kings, informed the city and the group that they had a particular time frame to get a new venue built. If they were unable to meet those requirements, the league could take further action and allow the Kings to potentially be sold/relocate.
Hoping to throw a wrench in the Kings arena plans was Hansen, who from reports, sounds as if he’s the man bankrolling the anti-arena campaign in Sacramento.
Questions arose where the anti-arena campaign was getting their money considering they were relatively broke just a few short months ago, yet, incredibly they appeared extremely well funded out of the blue.
The money was reportedly passed through a law firm previously used (and still currently used) by the Maloof family, in attempts to hide where it exactly came from.
The Maloof family, of course, has denied any involvement.
