Few expect Tyreke Evans to wait very long to sign the offer sheet presented to him by the New Orleans Pelicans. It was more money than many projected and it’s unlikely Evans gets more from any other team. However, after coming away impressed after meeting with the Sacramento Kings brass yesterday, it’s being reported that Evans is currently waiting to see if the Kings will offer him a comparable deal before signing the offer sheet with the Pelicans on July 10th.
A source speaking on the condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing, indicated the Kings are considering matching the offer, even though the Pelicans’ offer sheet is above what they thought Evans would receive from another team.
Evans could decide to accept the offer from the Pelicans and sign an offer sheet July 10 – the first day restricted free-agents are allowed to sign – but he is waiting to see if the Kings will present an offer that is comparable.
Several reputable sources say that Evans enjoys Sacramento and is open to continuing his career here, which gives the Kings front office a few different options.
The Kings do still have the opportunity to amnesty John Salmons if need be, so bringing back Evans could leave the Kings with plenty of cap room assuming that’s a route they went down.
