Report: Sacramento Kings Aren't Trying To Trade Jimmer Fredette

Earlier today, Marc Stein of ESPN suggested that the Sacramento Kings were trying to trade Jimmer Fredette, using the former BYU guard as bait in hopes of securing an additional first round pick.

However, Jason Jones of the Sacramento hints that while teams are showing interest in Fredette, the Kings aren’t actively shopping the sharpshooter.

Per Jones:

FWIW: I hear Kings aren’t shopping Jimmer Fredette but teams are interested in him. Goes along w/ what I’ve heard for some time.

Fredette still has a season under contract with the Kings along with a qualifying year in 2014-15 so the Kings have little reason to rush a move.

It’s difficult to get a read on what the Kings new front office wants to do, so any rumor involving Fredette (or anybody else for that matter) needs to be taken with a heavy grain of salt.

While it remains likely that the Kings are indeed trying to secure an additional first round pick as multiple sources have indicated, Fredette may not be the piece they’re dangling to do so.

Jimmer needs another chance with this team. He’s a diamond in the rough in my opinion with a high basketball IQ and very unselfish. He just needs more playing time and some freedom to get his confidence up. If we trade him I think it would be a big mistake.

I would be very interested to see what he can do under a real coach with consistent lineups and rotations.

      He will have that now.

Really dude. Like ogdr said. Keep up with the times.

This is good news. I too, would like to see him play one more year as a King but under new ownership, management, etc.

I think he makes a perfect fit for what this new Kings team is trying to become.

    Keep Jimmer!

I don’t think he fits on the current Kings roster. It will change before next season, no doubt. But I doubt he will still have a good fit. This coach is smart and will make the best of what we have. Out of all the ball-needing chuckers, he is the one that would be least damaging to lose. But hey, coach is defensive and Jimmer isn’t so.. maybe we can get a better Jimmer with some decent playing time?
