So DeMarcus Cousins wants a max contract from the Sacramento Kings.
This of course will be met with eye rolls and skepticism, but it’s not as if anybody really expected differently, did they?
The former Kentucky Wildcat will be entering essentially the final season of his contract with the Kings as he’ll be a restricted free agent next Summer and the big man is looking to get paid. Again, not very shocking.
Per the Sacramento Bee:
His agent, Dan Fegan, has instructed Cousins not to speak on anything relating to the Kings team, management or ownership.
Cousins is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and Fegan wants a maximum deal for his client with the threat of a trade demand looming if a deal isn’t reached.
Keep in mind, this isn’t Cousins speaking, rather his agent who’s probably doing his best to strong arm the Kings’ new regime. Fegan already had a somewhat dicey relationship with former Kings general manager Geoff Petrie and is well known throughout NBA circles for being somewhat of an asshat.
All in all – it’s nothing we didn’t know and it’s not Cousins speaking, which shouldn’t be overlooked.
Next Summer, Cousins will get paid. A lot. Will that be from the Sacramento Kings? That’s impossible to tell at this current moment, but the request is more of a matter of when – not if. It’s not shocking news. If anything, it’s expected.
