While the Kings have yet to name a general manager, it appears – at least according to Peter Vecsey, that they’ve already decided on a head coach.
Mike Malone is a living lock 2B Kings’ head coach, I’m informed. Don’t know time frame of announcement, but go to sleep on it happening.
Warriors’ CEO Joe Lacob told me last year he’d do everything 2 help Malone. So when team part owner bought into Kings, Mike became easy sell
Mike is sure 2 hire his father, Brendan, who, before becoming a coach (Power Memorial HS), worked 4 NY Daily Mirror until it folded in 1963.
Malone had been widely regarded as one of the top potential coaching candidates available, interest coming from a handful of teams including the Kings. Given Vivek Ranadive’s ties to the Warrior organization, it certainly gives the Kings a potential “in” with Malone, who already has a working relationship with the Kings’ new owner.
The assistant coach has spent time in New York, Cleveland and New Orleans prior to his arrival in Golden State and is continually credited with the defensive improvements those teams experienced during his tenures.
