The Sacramento Kings have not had the of best luck in the NBA Lottery and today that tradition continued.
For Sacramento, there were only six possible outcomes – picking first, second, third, sixth, seventh or eighth. Unlike past seasons (due to their placement), the Kings didn’t have any opportunity to pick forth or fifth and once the ping pong balls fell, the Kings fell one spot from were they originally slotted in the lottery – seventh.
With only an 8% chance at the third pick, 7% at the second and 6% for the top overall selection, the odds weren’t in the Kings favor to begin with. The most likely scenario had the Kings selecting sixth with a near 44% chance to do so. The odds for the Kings to fall to the seventh selection were relatively high as well, 30%, and that’s exactly what happened.
Unlike recent drafts, there doesn’t appear to be a consensus top pick (hell, there doesn’t appear to be much consensus at all through the top three) so at least on the surface, you don’t feel like you’ve missed out on a top talent. Still, the lotto appears to be a haunted place for Sacramento but this might be one year that the fan base really doesn’t care. At least we have a lotto to be bummed out with.
The 2013 NBA Draft will be held on June 27th.
